Imagine you are dating someone and the two of you are out on a romantic date (if you’re married please imagine you are with your spouse and NOT dating someone). On that date your special person looks into your eyes and says:
“I love you because you fulfill a special purpose in my plans.”
Does that do anything for you? How about this:
“I love you because of your consistency in your behaviour.”
Does that do anything for you? How about this:
“The Lord did not set his heart on you and choose you because you were more numerous than other nations, for you were the smallest of all nations! Rather, it was simply that the Lord loves you… Deuteronomy 7:7-8, NLT
This is the simple and yet utterly profound truth of God: he loves you because he loves you. And it’s in God’s great love where you will discover that he has placed upon you unsurpassable worth.
